Purple Ruler × Lionheart Educational Trust
Strategic Partnership Proposal

From nine separate arrangements to one unified trust-wide provision.

A tailored, curriculum-aligned inclusion provision for Lionheart — built on three years of delivery across your schools, and modelled on the trust that did it first: the White Horse Federation.

The partnership so far

Three years embedded across Lionheart.

Purple Ruler isn't a new name to Lionheart. We're already the established online inclusion partner to nine of your ten schools — and to The Pioneers' Centre, the trust's dedicated alternative-provision centre — delivering across the full provision ladder, from full-time Academy places to school-timetabled Blueprint lessons, 1:1 Compass tutoring and Distinction exam-prep groups.

Full-category coverage

Lionheart is one of only a handful of trusts using all four Purple Ruler categories (A·B·C·D) trust-wide — a depth of partnership most trusts never reach.

Proven engagement

169 positive student-feedback responses against just 26 issues — and the issues logged are almost entirely connectivity, not teaching. Enjoyment runs near-universal across every school sampled.

Genuine reach

From Humphrey Perkins to Martin High to Sir Jonathan North, we reach the students hardest to engage — long-term absentees, managed moves, SEND and SEMH cohorts.

What we deliver today

A trust already invested across every category.

Entrenchment = how deeply each category is woven into day-to-day provision. Distinction and Blueprint are now structural to how Lionheart supports exam cohorts.

Delivery footprint

~6,863 lessons delivered, school by school.

A measure of trust earned over time — not a pilot, but sustained provision your schools have come back to term after term.

Live partnership across nine Lionheart schools plus The Pioneers' Centre, the trust's dedicated alternative-provision centre and our deepest-engaged site (full Academy→Blueprint→Distinction ladder) — with Mercia Academy currently joining for a reintegration-focused pathway. Pioneers' Centre provision is invoiced at centre level, so it is not reflected in the per-school enrolment/lesson figures above.

The opportunity

Nine relationships, one trust — but no single provision.

Today every Lionheart school commissions Purple Ruler independently: separate enrolments, per-course billing, school-by-school scheduling. It works — but it leaves efficiency, consistency and curriculum alignment on the table. A unified trust-wide model captures all three.

Today — fragmented

Nine separate arrangements

  • Per-course, per-student billing at each school
  • Duplicated admin & onboarding nine times over
  • Inconsistent provision & pricing across the trust
  • No pooled capacity — quiet seats can't flex to need
  • Curriculum alignment handled school-by-school
Proposed — unified

One Lionheart inclusion hub

  • A single trust-wide provision & one agreement
  • Pooled seats shared across all schools to need
  • Consistent quality, safeguarding & reporting
  • Aligned to the Lionheart curriculum, not nine variants
  • 50–60% more cost-effective than separate delivery*

*Cost-efficiency benchmark drawn from the White Horse Federation trust-wide model (see below). Exact savings modelled to Lionheart's volumes at contracting.

The standard · benchmark

The White Horse Federation did it first.

White Horse built a single trust-wide alternative provision with Purple Ruler — pooling seats across its schools into one inclusion hub. The result is the model this proposal puts in front of Lionheart.

Trust-wide unified provision?Not yet ←✓ Live

Lionheart has the deeper footprint already. The single missing piece is the unifying agreement that turns nine arrangements into one provision.

The provision

One ladder, four categories — tailored to each learner.

A unified provision doesn't mean one-size-fits-all. It means a single, coherent ladder your schools can move students along — from full-time placement back towards the classroom.

Category A
Academy

Full online alternative provision, groups ≤6, nationwide. For students who can't currently attend at all.

from £139/wk (indicative)
Category B
Blueprint

Live lessons on your scheme & timetable, ≤6/group — one flat group rate regardless of headcount.

per-group rate (indicative)
Category C
Compass

1:1 SEND tutoring for the students who need a single trusted adult and a bespoke pace.

per-hour rate (indicative)
Category D
Distinction

Small-group stretch & exam preparation for high attainers and Y11 cohorts.

per-group rate (indicative)

Indicative pricing; final trust-wide rates modelled to Lionheart's pooled volumes. Enhanced mental-health support available as an add-on. Phased reintegration (online → blended → classroom) underpins every category.

Quality & assurance

Inspected, and trusted.

Purple Ruler meets all the minimum standards for online education across every section of its Ofsted monitoring (Oct 2025).

"A significant strength of Purple Ruler is the support staff provide for pupils with SEND… each pupil receives carefully tailored, individualised teaching."— Ofsted, October 2025

"Communication with those who commission places is a strength. Consequently, commissioners feel well-informed." A full commissioning & compliance pack is available on request.

Student voice

Engagement first.

For the cohorts we serve — long-term absence, SEMH, managed moves — the first win isn't attendance, it's re-engagement. Lionheart's own student feedback tells that story.

169
positive responses
~87%
"enjoyed the lesson" — yes

Of 195 feedback responses across the trust, the 26 issues logged were overwhelmingly technical (connectivity), not teaching quality — and are actively resolved.

The path forward

From here to a unified Lionheart provision.

Shape the model together

A 45-minute working session with trust leadership to agree scope: which schools, which categories, pooled-seat volumes and the curriculum-alignment requirements.

Model the cost-efficiency

We build a trust-wide pricing model against your actual volumes and show the saving versus today's nine separate arrangements.

Bring every school into one model

Migrate existing cohorts onto the unified agreement with zero disruption, and extend the same provision to schools newer to the partnership — including a reintegration pathway for Mercia Academy.

One provision, one report

A single trust-wide inclusion hub with consistent safeguarding, quality and termly reporting to the trust — the White Horse standard, tailored to Lionheart.
